The Grand Toubkal Challenge

We’ve done many mountain challenges in our time at Human Appeal, but this one’s special.

You might not think of mountains when you think of Morocco, but there’s more to this magical country than sand and desert. The Atlas Mountain Range is renowned the world over for its beauty, sweeping scenery and incredible views, and we need 15 daring volunteers to trek to the top of its tallest peak, Mount Toubkal.

The trek at a glance

  • Date: 13th – 17th September 2021
  • Registration fee: £49
  • Fundraising target: £2,500 per person
  • Number of places: 15

More about the trek

From arriving in Morocco to travelling to the foothills of the Atlas mountains, this will be the trip of a lifetime. You’ll trek through orchards and valleys, climb up to the mystic town of Sidi Chamharouch, before ascending high into the Atlas mountain range. At the top of Mount Toubkal if conditions allow, you’ll be treated to one of the most stunning vistas in the world. You’ll glimpse the Atlantic coast to the west and the colourful sands of the Sahara Desert to the east. The whole trek takes 4 days, and it is sure to be the trip of a lifetime.

What’s included in the package and registration fee?

  • A full physical and mental consultation to get you prepared.
  • All accommodation and meals on the trek itself.
  • All transfers during the trip in private transport (airport to Imlil, Marrakech and back to the airport).
  • The use of a highly experienced Western guide and an English-speaking local guide.
  • Mineral water and mint tea on the climb.
  • Mules for carrying bags.

Cost excludes

  • Morocco visa fee (free for UK passport holders).
  • Flight from UK to Marrakech.
  • Personal travel insurance (compulsory).
  • Gear and equipment (please let us know if you want to rent gear).
  • Tips and gratuity (a tip of £25-£40 is expected for local guides and porters).

Trek for our World in Crisis Appeal

At any given time, Human Appeal is responding to 5 emergencies around the world. We don’t just respond to the headline-hitting crises; our local teams support communities each time they’re hit by hunger, drought, flooding, displacement, and other localised emergencies. This is the life-saving work of our Emergency Fund.

When a disaster strikes, our Emergency Fund allows us to respond within 72 hours, dispatching the aid and experts that the most vulnerable need. Arriving on the scene in these first hours is critical to controlling the scale of an emergency, and to helping to get families to safety.
